James Patterson is one of the most successful fiction writers in the world, having sold more than 300M copies of his books through his career. He changed the way people read by inventing the ‘page turner’ and he wanted to reinvent the novel again for a new generation of readers.
We partnered with James to launch a first of its kind digital literary experience with his forthcoming novel — ‘The Chef’ — available exclusively on Messenger and designed for mobile, social reading.
Readers dove deeper into the storyline and engaged with characters, locations, and clues via interactive video and sound clips before the book was launched in print. The immersive 360 experience came to life with cross-platform content including Facebook Live Q&A's with James Patterson, Instagram profiles for the main characters, and more. The community also connected and discussed the novel in the ‘The Chef’ Facebook Group. Three months after the launch, a physical book went into print with a scannable code to open the Messenger experience.
Today ‘The Chef’ has 100,000+ digital readers and growing — exceeding estimates for this new entertainment format. And, off the back of this experience, ‘The Chef’ was on the New York Times Best Seller list for 10 weeks.
